PlanToys — Sustainable Montessori Wooden Toys from Thailand
PlanToys — Better Kids, Better World Through Sustainable Play
PlanToys is one of the most meaningful brands we carry at Little Stars — a company that has been quietly revolutionizing what a toy company can stand for since 1981.
The Story Behind PlanToys
PlanToys was founded in 1981 by Vitool Viraponsavan in his hometown of Trang, Thailand. As an altruistic architect, he found that teaching children through play is the best way to make a better tomorrow — founding PlanToys with the mission of "Better Kid, Better World Through Sustainable Play."
One of Thailand's top exports is latex and rubber. After about 25 years, farmers cut down rubberwood trees on their farms that no longer produce latex to make room to plant new trees — and would traditionally burn the wood. Vitool didn't see wood as a byproduct but as a valuable building resource. He went to the farmers to buy the wood, giving them a new source of income — and giving birth to PlanToys.
The World's First Reclaimed Rubberwood Toy Maker
PlanToys is the first company in the world to manufacture toys from reclaimed rubber wood trees — and they are proud to say they have never cut down a single tree to make their toys.
PlanToys builds sustainability around three pillars: Sustainable Materials, Sustainable Manufacturing, and Sustainable Mind — ensuring every aspect of their business is conducted with deep consideration for the natural environment.
In 2012, PlanToys debuted PlanWood — made from the sawdust and wood chips left over from regular PlanToys production, creating a process that expands the possibilities of sustainability even further.
